Abstract:
Donation and sponsorship have been throughout history one of the main means to finance projects , wars and expeditions. Over recent years, the great potential of donation and sponsorship have been deeply undervalued. However, at present, major projects funded by these sources have begun to reappear. Among these, we find the largest and most ambitious cultural project ever: "Wikipedia". After an analysis of the current status of the use of donation and sponsorship, this article will discuss the funding model used byWikipedia . The analysis done will allow us to understand the fundraising models used by the companies belonging to the so called "Internet Economy ".
