Abstract: Wage policy and forms of remuneration in the French civil service from the beginning of 2000s : transformations and stakes — The state's wage policy has known important inflexions during the course of the last decade. Parametric adjustments (such as the freeze of index markers, the indexation of lower salaries to the SMIC) and partial actions (such as the reclassification of certain categories) have been adopted, but the more structural reforms of the method of remu-neration, even if they were wished for by the state, have not, in reality, come to be. But simultane-ously, the state's wage policy has become more categorical. Beyond limited effects on the average purchase power, these changes have had important consequences in the terms of wage hierarchy and career and contribute in explaining the rise of an important discontent on the subject. The whole of these evolutions are being addressed by the trade unions, whose strategies vary, at the different level (central or local), between opposition and accompaniment.
