Abstract: This research proposes a model of the personal (enduring involvement, time available and attitude towards the store) and situational (perceived store environment) antecedents of browsing behaviour in retail stores which motives are mainly recreational and realized by consumers without the intent to buy. The field study conducted in the leisure corner of a grocery store, with 599 customers, highlights that time available is the major determinant of this specific behaviour and that attention paid to the store environment is a moderating variable of the relation between browsing behavior and perceived store environment.
