Abstract: This article presents the first empirical study on French lawyers' disciplinary system, which intends to supervise lawyers and to enforce their ethical obligations. We show that the «professional dilemma» between disclosing and covering infractions made by members shapes the enforcement of lawyers' ethical code. Furthermore, our analysis sheds light on the professional logic that still prevails in an increasingly competitive market for legal services.
