Le nationalisme dans les relations économiques internationales

Jean Siroen

Post-Print from HAL

Abstract: The economic nationalism has, today, new favourable opinions in industrial countries which permit more protectionist trade policies. We examine the doctrinal foundations of economic nationalism in relation with the liberal point of view. We distinguish autar- kical nationalism and hegemonical nationalism. We show that the postwar international "liberal" economic order was impregnated by mercantilist perceptions and that liberalism was mainly instrumental. Lastly, we explore ways of avoiding the traps of nationalism.
