Abstract: The marketing of fresh fish in Kribi, Cameroon, faces many uncertainties and implies the use of specific assets. In this chain, actors build hybrid coordination mechanisms, with contractual arrangements which rely heavily on trust. The recent implementation of an organized market, which was designed to foster transparency in transactions, has reduced the role of network linkages. However it cannot be said that inter-individual trust has been entirely substituted by the competitive mechanism.
