Abstract:
The case is divided into two parts, which can be studied at the same time. One describes the situation in France in 1997, and the other describes the situation in 2014. Teachers should therefore ask the students to read both accounts, which describe the political situation in France in April 1997 and during the first quarter of 2014. Discussing two different situations, which nevertheless share some similarities, will allow students to have enough distance to understand the decision-making process. Discussing these processes will help them with their management skills. Each sub-situation describes the context, arguments, and useful dates and events, whereas the appendices provide information such as the Constitution of the French Republic, schedules, excerpts from official speeches, etc.
