Abstract: Non-profit organizations are today increasingly constrained to justify the quality of their management by becoming professional and adopting tools imported from the profit world. A literature demonstrates the contradictions at the heart of this phenomenon. Our research explores these paradoxes. It uncovers the representations that the volunteers have of the values of the association in which they engage and of the management tools that this deploys. In doing so, we propose an original typology of volunteer profiles.
