Abstract: In light of the conceptual uncertainty surrounding the notion of role strain in French and English research, this paper proposes an original analytical framework of this construct. The identification of four types and three subjects of role strain offers a multidimensional and integrative conceptual framework for future research. This conceptual base permits the overriding of unidimensional design that dominates quantitative research and adopts a cumulative research approach for qualitative studies.
