Abstract: Individual proactive behaviors are essential during socialization. Our research focuses on the individual antecedents of proactive behaviors. We focus our work on the dispositional antecedents of these behaviors. Our data were collected in a major French insurance company among the employees hired in 2010. 218 questionnaires were collected. Our data analysis shows that the proactive behaviors identified by the literature share a common antecedent. We also show that proactive personnality, which is usually presented in the literature as the key antecedents of organizational proactive behaviors, has a lesser explanatory role than personal initiative. We encourage thus researchers in this field to use the concept of personal initiative instead of proactive personality in future research.
