Abstract: Anne Monjaret and Valérie Guillard deal with the transition of objects between the home and the work, from a qualitative survey of 20 urban people. They show that the status of objects may or may not change depending on where they arrive whatever the permanent or temporary arrival. Some objects are "bureaucratized": coming from home, they become objects of the office. Conversely, some objects are "domesticated" doing the opposite way. Sometimes they retain their status. Ultimately, the study of these movements confirm the separation between home and work. This separation has two dimensions. Assimilation: the objects are no longer here and blend into their new environment, becoming objects from there. Conservation: the objects "from here" will never become objects "from there". These results allow to understand the role of material culture in the spatial separation between home and work.
