Pareto's Law: Between social equilibrium and economic equilibrium
La loi de Pareto: entre équilibre social et équilibre économique

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the status of the law of income distribution in Pareto's work. It is argued that Pareto regarded this law as a possible link between the properties of general social equilibrium and those of economic equilibrium. More, he makes use of the law to derive a law of market demand, quite an original process at the time. Even if he did not develop this track after the Cours d'économie politique, the article suggests that Pareto's attitude towards the law sheds some light on the way he conceived of the relations between pure economics and concrete economic facts, and beyond, the relations between political economy and sociology.
