Abstract:
Even if payroll is an essential variable in the German economy, it is paradoxically badly known, especially in the long term. Following the founding work of Hoffmann (1965), this paper has a twofold objective : on the one hand, to produce a new measure of the lon run evolution of wages, wage system and hence, an original estimate of the German payroll ; on the other hand, to put forward new hypothesis about the relationship between these variables and the socio-economic development of the country.
