Abstract:
We use a dynamic analysis of cotton farms and sector, based on the vulnerability and poverty trap concepts, in order to asses the impacts of the liberalization. We use a sample of a hundred farms from South Mali and highlight a downturn of productive assets between 2003 and 2010. In a period affected by many shocks, the partial liberalization of the cotton sector does not seem to have improved the situation but on the contrary the vulnerability of farmers may have increased.
