Abstract: This article aims to suggest the ways to improve the governance of a franchise relationship between a franchisor and its franchisees. It uses the concept of psychological contract, coming from social sciences. This focuses on mutual obligations not specified in a formal contract, but it however generates the commitment in the relationship. The different components of psychological contracts are revealed by the method of life history applied in the French context taken from qualitative research.
