Abstract: Based on Bourdieu's theory of practice, this research compares the value of international work experiences for repatriation in two national contexts, France and Germany. The results of the empirical study, which is based on 40 semi-structured interviews, show that the value of the repatriates' career capital portfolio depends on the rules of the game of the respective career field. Differences between the French and German career fields can be explained by cultural and institutional factors.
