Abstract: This paper highlights the limits commercial microfinance is facing and provides theoretical arguments for risk analysis for rural economies in developing countries. A weather-sensitivity analysis applied to the French cooperative agriculture environment illustrates both what is possible but also the limits and constraints which still exist. Weather derivatives as a hedge to agricultural loans deserves to be further investigated.
