Abstract: Performance appraisals, development discussions and goal settings constitute procedures and dispositifs of truth within modern organizations. Drawing on the Foucaldian notion of confession, it deploys it as a conceptual lens for exploring the process of subjectification based on avowals and narratives of the self. As it allows investigating the discursive, ritualistic and subject-shaping aspects of confession, the paper substantiates and operationalizes the idea of the confessing organization featured by the permanent quest for truth and production of subjects as confessing animals. At an empirical level, it studies the production of subjects through these dispositifs via an ethnographic study conducted in a Big Four by following the integration of a new recruit.
