Abstract:
Cities are nowadays aiming at organizing sustainable mobility. They expect to simultaneously fulfill various economic objectives but also environmental constraints and social inclusiveness. In pratice, all these targets are difficult to conciliate. The technical solutions praised by a lot of local players rely implicitly on very specific visions of how cities as well as individual and collective mobility should be managed. This paper captures the underlying models justifying the current behaviour of players and institutions. It shows that ultimately they all rely on the main paradigms of economic theory. By not being aware of this tacit background, public policies on sustainable mobility may miss their goals.
