Abstract: The situation of trade war is a difficult situation to define, because one is incapable of describing what would be a situation of commercial peace. To circumvent this ontological obstacle, a classic sequence of conflicts is defined as a commercial war: threat, threat of response, hostile action, riposte, search for allies, escalation or internationalization of the conflict.
