Abstract:
This study analyses fluctuations in the prices of food crops in the urban markets of Cameroon. Our methodology is based on the computation of an indicator of price volatility and the application of the vector autoregresion model (VAR). The results show in Douala and Yaoundé, over the period 1994-2012, the combined effects of the storable or tradable nature of food produce, the persistence of past volatility, as well as fluctuations in the prices of substitutes.
