Abstract:
New Technology-Based Firms (NTBFs) are a great potential source of job creation and economic growth. But in France, a strong heterogeneity of their growth trajectories is observed and many of them remain small. A better understanding of these trajectories is thus necessary. Despite many potential explanatory factors, individual and organizational explanations can be highlighted. In this research, we studied 253 NTBFs growth trajectories. The use of a Heckman ordered probit model shows that entrepreneurs play a weak role in understanding the growth trajectories of their company. It is mainly the organizational factors such as the level of innovation and the governance structure that explain the entry into a growth trajectory and the intensity of this growth.
