Abstract: Current theories of consumption insist on breaking down the boundary between production and consumption that characterizes the phenomenon of prosumption. This research project examines the original and unexplored practices of prosumption that we have named "Recoup'Creation" [récup'création]. The recoup'creator manufactures and produces objects by transforming worthless scrap into utilitarian/aesthetic articles. By giving new life to waste materials, he changes nothings into something of value. He produces and consumes where the market has stopped. The objective of this research is to describe Recoup'Creation practices, to analyze them, and to suggest a method of categorizing them according to three criteria: engineering vs. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) methodology, the artistic vs. the craftsman approach and amateur vs. professional industrial methods.
