Abstract: On a planet which is now considered too small, many see the ocean as a new frontier of the global economy. As a provider of energy, goods and services, and a vector for trade, the ocean is already an essential component of global economic development. All over the world, investments in ‘blue growth' appear to be on the rise, supported by economic sectors rooted in the history of human societies. New sectors filled with potential and promise are also setting their sights on the ocean.
