Abstract: The subject of this paper is the wastage of objects. The paper helps clarify our understanding of what the term "wastage" means for the owners of these items. It also foregrounds what organizations might do to make people more aware of this type of wastage. On the basis of twenty-one interviews and observations in respondents' homes, the findings show that individuals consider their objects' past and future utility for themselves and others in characterizing wasteful situations. The paper concludes with a discussion of the societal and managerial implications of the findings.
