Abstract: This article deals with HRM contribution to organizational performance. It suggests that the organization of the HR function is a key issue in that matter. Building on data collected in 3792 companies operating in different countries, we demonstrate that organizational performance requires strong HR function. This result recognizes that line managers also have a key role in HR. It suggests yet that aligning HRM and business strategy is not enough. Companies with the highest level of organizational performance also give a preponderant influence to HR experts for HRM decision. Besides empirical findigns, our article offer theoritical arguments that explain why the question of the power of HR experts matter.
