Abstract:
This article analyzes structural changes in the media industries as convergence enables incumbent players in the broadcasting sector to expand their roles, it also marks the entry of powerful new players from telecommunications and IT industries altering their value chains and business models. Firms are moving up the value chain to higher margin activities through vertical integration but also horizontal concentration conducting numerous partnerships and cross investments. But even if they operate in a fiercely competitive environment, they simultaneously compete and collude by adopting the logic of coopetition.
