Abstract: For the government, conscription is no longer an instrument for the integration of young people who have emerged from adolescence into the adult world. Today, it is becoming necessary to create a professional army. There are several criteria against this solution, including cost, opportunity costs and the democratic link between the nation and the army. The choice for a professional army is based on the professionalization, specialization of the army, the truth of the costs. However, the renovation of the National Service could be undertaken, at least at the level of the symbol and the capacity of conscripts to constantly bring in civilian techniques and innovations applicable to the service of the armed forces.
