Abstract: A framework distinguishing four moments to interpret heritage situations allows presenting the literature on heritage. Interpretations are related to the question of entitlement (individual and/or collective) and to the time status of heritage. The last and conclusive section proposes a new research program to use heritage as an analytical tool able to put the light on the heritage dimension of goods and institutions but, too, of individual behaviours and choices.
