Abstract: Over the last few years, the structure of the world wine industry has emerged as an oligopoly with fringes. This article contributes to explain the logics of industrial and financial concentration in the wine industry. For this purpose, we first discuss the motivations of firms in Europe and in the new wine producing countries. After, we introduce briefly the main trends in mergers and acquisitions linked to the concentration in the industry. Finally, we discuss the key issues related to concentration for the firms by taking into account the structure of the wine supply.
