Abstract: This article proposes a reflection on agricultural policies, focusing on the food issue (but excluding here the aspects of trade policies). It is written by accepting the idea that public intervention is warranted in this area (without having to be systematic); the world will need all its agricultures, in their diversity, to achieve the satisfaction of food independence. It also believes that the search for better international coordination between agricultural policies is necessary. Three sections are distinguished. The first recalls the main reasons why agriculture should be considered in connection with public policies, as a specific sector. The second presents the major changes that have occurred from time to time within the CAP, and then highlights the major challenges facing it. The third raises the question of interest for greater international coordination of policies relating to this sector to achieve global food security. It successively addresses several aspects, regularly mentioned in the many debates that focus on food issues today: the stockpiling of agricultural goods by main geographical areas; the conditions required to obtain a sustainable food production in Africa; land grabbing in poor countries, the diversion of farmland to produce biofuels; new technologies of the plants (Genetically Modified Plants).
