Abstract:
The Mexican food and beverages industry is facing a deep restructuration associated with a strong mergers and acquisitions dynamics undertaken by foreign investors and the largest Mexican enter- prises, due to both industrial and financial motives. In order to face this restructuring, the Mexican groups must solve the dilemma of combining the internationalization as well as the intergenerational transfer of the property and management structure. Foreign investments in Mexico may accomplish poorer results than national firms, if the latter rely on business and technological international best practices that allow them to create entrance barriers to foreign competitors as well as to use resources asymmetries between countries to create competitive advantages.
