Abstract: Internet offers new ways of working and opens the organizations to new stakeholders. Online contributors are the perfect staff representative. Through so-called collaborative platforms, they contribute to the design of common goods. In this article, we explore the collective intelligence of these contributors working on virtual platforms. The question is to make the difference between the intelligence that develops this type of collective compared to the crowds of Internet users. The research is based on a netnographic and studies the development of an intelligent application, Pl@ntNet, which involves contributors from Tela Botanica, a collaborative science website in botany. The results present the collective intelligence that takes place in the project groups of this website, mark the differences between this type of collective work and the classic crowdsourc-ing, and advance a classification of collective works taking place in this type of open organization. Genome of the collective intelligence system of Malone et al. (2014) and the extension obtained here offer to the managers an observation grid that can be used to create a virtual structure involving contributors (or even crowds) or to analyze the existing structure with an objective to improving it.
