Abstract: The notion of doping is debatable and discussed. States have different conceptions of the issue, even if today the international bodies of each sport and the Olympic Committee lay down rules that apply to all international competitions. As performance is also a factor of economic interest for sportsmen and women, illegal channels are being set up throughout the world. The result is a race between the thief and the policeman, with a whole range of anti-doping umbrella policies involving law and medicine. Ethical issues are also being addressed.
