Abstract: The economic analysis of the State is the subject of many doctrinal debates, from the social contract to Leviathan or the political expression of the ruling class. Its role has evolved over time, from the natural state to the all-powerful state, through the modern territorial state. Today, the state is an economic agent with a heterogeneous decision-making weight, depending on the forms of society it helps to shape and organize, from the police state to the decision-making state, via the social protection state.
