Abstract:
The economic consequences of disarmament are particularly difficult to calculate, as there are many elements to be taken into account concerning international negotiations, the economic structures of countries, the importance of the military sector in the national economy, the maintenance of international security and the level of economic and social development of countries. An econometric and simulation analysis is proposed, ceteris paribus; it uses figures provided by international bodies to evaluate the impact of disarmament through the reduction of military spending on the economic growth of a few countries. The questions of transfers of resources saved by disarmament to the least developed countries are briefly addressed.
