Abstract:
The search for disarmament for development can only be achieved if the major powers agree on the concept of military expenditure and define, through negotiation, the rules of comparison of the defence effort between the countries concerned. There are several traditional sources of information, but the United Nations is engaged in a concrete project of estimating military expenditure, but the countries with planned economies today refuse to participate in this project, considering that any disarmament implies mutual trust, which therefore does not require verification of the data provided by the participants. However, the technical elements of comparison are complex, several methods coexist, with a certain preference for the use of my purchasing power parity method. Mots clés : Dépenses militaires, comparaisons internationales, désarmement pour le développement Military expenditure, international comparisons, disarmament for development.
