Abstract: War influences and is influenced by economic factors. Economic conflicts are sometimes as deadly as military conflicts. Preparation for war differs according to the strength and structure of very heterogeneous national economies. The econometric results provide some interesting information on the links between military expenditure and economic development. The importance of the role of the armaments industries in the development of new technologies seems to be growing today, especially as they are rapidly becoming dual-use and provide the dominant states with a new power extended to the civilian sector. In this context of globalisation, the notion of war must be reviewed and no longer analysed solely as a military factor.
