Abstract: The paper studies the interactions between logistics and traceability. It shows that traceability is a core principle of logistics management and that the logistics traceability system is a good basis to develop the general traceability system of companies and supply chains. Then it considers the way to implement the total traceability of supply chains from ideal-type to reality. Elements of method are given pointing out the more critical aspects of this type of project, and discussing the evolution of the total traceability system.
