Abstract: On the basis of an open questionnaire, to which 50 French experts on the themes of violence, war, armament and disarmament responded, four main themes were addressed, namely the definition of war, the perception of the causes of violence and armed conflict, the responsibility of armaments in conflicts and disarmament as a factor of peace. The perception of the causes of violence and war by French experts recognised for their analyses of war. Despite a common educational base, opinions are heterogeneous. Armament is not the cause of wars, nuclear confrontation is unlikely, economic factors are not important in the field of security and verification is inseparable from disarmament.
