Abstract: The question of the influence and impact of Israel's military expenditure on economic development raises several methodological problems, particularly concerning the availability and accuracy of data, the consideration of the combined effects of military expenditure on the economy but also in terms of national security (an important factor in the proper functioning of an economy) and the political and economic choices between the short and long term. Econometric analysis is concerned only with figures and seeks to highlight some relationships between macroeconomic variables explained, at least partially, by the different components of military spending. Using regressions and a small model, the influence of military expenditure on GDP, consumption, investment, imports, exports or the price index is analysed over the period 1960 to 1977. For Israel, a reduction in military expenditure leads in the short term to a reduction in growth and investment, but also to an increase in consumption and an increase in the trade balance deficit.
