Abstract:
Summary: The definition of military expenditure is not homogeneous in time and space. There are several international sources that provide chronological and international information, but they do not use the same definitions, the same indices of currency and terms of trade. This chapter aims to homogenise military spending as presented annually to Parliament (Senate and National Assembly). The major difficulty lies in changes in nomenclatures, definitions of budget lines, internal transformations of the armed forces or the disappearance of colonies.
