Abstract:
Perceptions of the different dimensions of equity by partners engaged in asymmetric strategic alliances may be different and evolve over time, especially in contexts of significant institutional change. These differences of fairness perceptions' and their trends can have contrasting effects on the stability of the relationship. In order to verify this, we conducted a longitudinal study between 2006 and 2016 of 6 cases of asymmetrical alliances established in Tunisia, a country that was the first to experience major political changes (Jasmine Revolution, 2011). Our results confirm the multidimensional nature of equity, through its two dimensions (structural and social). They also show that unstable alliances are those that have experienced differences in the partners' perceptions of equity. Finally, our results suggest that resilient alliances are those where partners have co-constructed flexible adaptation mechanisms, made new investments and increased their commitment.
