Abstract:
With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the question arises as to the effectiveness of France's nuclear deterrence from weak to strong in relation to its cost. What is the real cost of nuclear weapons? How much equipment and research and development expenditure is devoted to the military nuclear sector? What are the real costs of nuclear deterrence beyond the simple budgetary allocations? What are the opportunity costs of this strategy today, both in terms of growth and national security based on conventional weapons? Isn't military nuclear power an opportunity for France to maintain its rank as a great power?
