Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to explore and estimate the deviation from the "one man, one vote" principle in the context of political representation and its implications for distributive politics. To proceed with the measurement of inequalities in the representation of territories (geographical under/overrepresentation) or opinions/parties (ideological under/overrepresentation), we import (with some important caveats and adjustments) the Lorenz curve which is an important tool in the economics of income distribution. We then consider some indices of maldistribution and disproportionality. We provide several applications of these concepts in Chapter 32.
