Abstract:
The dematerialisation of production processes is often presented as one of the essential characteristics of the information society. Faced with this major trend in the knowledge economy, the author, a historian of science, examines the relationship between human societies, and particularly our own, and the materials that once left their specific mark on successive civilisations.
