Abstract: The major shortcoming of many publications and doctorate thesis lies in their lack of alignment between research questions, mobilized concepts and operationalization in research method. To prevent such failings, it is important , from the start, to know how to design and control a structured approach and writing process. The chapter presents how to master and ensure the consistency of all the dimensions of a doctorate or PhD dissertation: from the initial formalization of the idea and research question to the writing process. This involves acquiring several competencies: specifying the importance of the main issues and stakes, being able to formulate a relevant research question, justifying and explaining a clear methodological positioning, understanding the expectations of the readers and recipients of the dissertation, identifying the "takeaways" produced by the research, ensuring the consistency of the construction of the dissertation, mastering a writing in tune with the formal rules of a research publication.
