Abstract: The objective of the CLOChèTE project was to define, with future users, farmers and shepherds, the functional and technical specifications of a tool to support management of small ruminant flocks on rangeland areas using on-board sensors, GPS and accelerometers. Firstly, we defined, with the users, the needs that GPS and accelerometers can meet by locating and characterizing the behavior of their animals. We developed algorithms for predicting the behavior of sheep and goats on grasslands and rangelands. For sheep, we determined the frequency of parameterization of the tool to optimize precision and numerical and energy sobriety, then we identified the animals of interest to equip in a flock to represent its movements. Finally, we compared these results with the final users, farmers and shepherds, in order to write the functional and technical specifications of the future tool.
