Abstract:
In the Gironde department, there is currently no commercial supply chain for wild game meat harvested locally. However, the steady rise in wild boar hunting numbers, combined with a decline in the number of hunters in the region, suggests that the hunting community may soon be unable to process and consume all the large game it harvests.This article outlines the requirements for creating a local supply chain for the processing and marketing of wild boar meat, driven by a new, urban-oriented hunting organization: the peri-urban hunting association of Bordeaux. We examine both the potential benefits and the possible barriers to implementing such a project. Finally, we raise broader questions about the role of hunting practices within increasingly urbanized territories.
