Abstract:
This text is a slightly modified version of the Lesson given by the author on July 21, 2009 at the University of Avignon and Pays de Vaucluse. It carries out an assessment of the performing arts at the turn of the 21st century, and highlights the importance of the multitude of initiatives – often of very modest size and still too little recognized – which are developing alongside the major cultural institutions. In resonance with large-scale contextual developments and on the example of the performing arts, the author then advocates for the need for a modification of the currently dominant conception of art in our society and its socio-economic governance.
